Baby News

We had an appointment with our high-risk doctor last Tuesday at 25 weeks 4 days. He was very happy to report that our baby boy is in the 70th percentile and weighs about 2 lbs. 1 oz! He says that my cervix is still long which is a good indication that the P17 injections are doing their job. He said that I was doing so well that I wouldn't have to see him for another 4 weeks. However, Kasey convinced him that I should come back in two weeks since I will be close to the scary 28 week marker! I guess my husband would appreciate my sanity to be intact! Here is our sweet little man's profile. We tried to see him in 3D but the images were still unclear. Maybe next time!

On Friday I saw my OB. Baby's heartbeat was in the 150s and sounded good. I am measuring right where I need to be and seem to have gotten this weight gain back under control! I think I can contribute that to not being in the same state as Pasta Bowl and/or Portillos! I also had my 1-hour glucose screen to test for gestational diabetes.

Over the weekend I was having more frequent braxton hicks contractions. I have talked to my doctors about these and they say that I should make sure to rest and drink a lot of water. They don't seem to be overly concerned because my cervix is still measuring long. I was very thankful to receive my P17 injection today, hopefully they will calm down!

I was just about to close my eyes for a nap when I received a call from my favorite nurse at my OB's office. She was calling to tell me that I failed my GD test and will need to go in for the 4 hour glucose tolerance test. Just when I thought being high risk for preterm labor and placenta previa was bad enough! Throw in gestational diabetes for the trifecta! Ugh. My sister just went through this same ordeal with her pregnancy. I watched at her shower as she carefully chose which yummy foods she could have and those she had to pass up. I saw her prick her finger for the billionth time as if she hadn't been poked enough during her struggle with infertility. I will go in on Saturday morning after fasting, slug down some syrupy goo, and have my blood drawn after 1, 2, and 3 hours.

I am frustrated and feel like my body keeps reminding me that I am not the best pregnant person. I will keep my chin up and repeat the mantra, "As long as baby and I are healthy...As long as baby and I are healthy..." I will pray that this is the last complication that I will face during my pregnancy. I will look forward to June 14th at 9:00AM when I have my healthy 36 weeks 6 days baby boy (and a half dozen cookies!).
